What’s The Tea Sis ☕️

Hello all my Rose Buds and Flowers! I’ve missed you sooooo much! Since we’ve been stuck in Quarantine Land, I now have a little more time to get back to blogging! Yaaay! So I’ve decided to dedicate Tuesday’s to one of my favorite drinks….Tea 🍵

Isn’t my Frog’s Lily Pad Tea Infuser just the cutest! 🐸 Oh and check out my DIY sugar cubes😁

Although I do love me some plain old black tea. I often gravitate towards the more adventurous flavors like today’s flavor COTTON CANDY 🍭. Yes I said Cotton Candy!

How I prepared? I used to work for a Risk Management Firm, and we had a client who brought in his own Irish Tea to meetings, and he always requested cream. So, one day I decided to try it and was hooked! Well, I said all that to say; I usually always prepare my tea with cream now! With the Cotton Candy Tea, I used Leaner Creamer Original This brand is quite expensive. However, I purchased mine on sale at Home Goods, in the food section. I also used Golding Farms Raw Organic Honey This honey is not as sweet as Wildflower Honey, so I also added (1) pack of Organic Sweetleaf Stevia and served warm.

So what did I think? I loved it! This tea definitely smells like cotton candy! However in my opinion this tea has more raspberry overtones and although it tastes like you’re drinking a sweet treat; it doesn’t really taste like cotton candy.

Would I purchase again? Yes, and I recommend purchasing from Adagio Tea. They have very affordable cute little sample tins that you can purchase to get a feel for the tea to determine if you like it or not, without breaking the bank! Plus they sent me 5 days of sample teas to test and discuss with their online CommuniTEA. How cute is that!? BTW, we’ll discuss those sample teas soon.

Ingredients

Blended With Honeybush Tea, Rose Hips, Hibiscus, Apple Pieces, Natural Raspberry Flavor, Natural Vanilla Flavor, Raspberries, Natural Strawberry Flavor, Strawberries & Raspberry Leaves, Sprinkles

Twisted Cotton Candy Flavor! Comes in a very cute Sample Tea Tin for only $5.00

Spring Break / The Best of the New Old South!

City Market  (Trolley Stop #2)

I’m originally from Florida, so we have traveled to Florida on Vacation a million times! Therefore, needless to say my Daughter is burned out on Disney and Universal Studios!  So last year, for my  Daughter’s Senior Year in High School she asked to go somewhere different, other than the usual Spring Break Spot of Panama City Beach (PCB).

So in true Go 2 Rose  fashion, I began to look for somewhere different to Vacation.  I came across the Mississippi Gulf Coast and New Orleans, which turned out to be an awesome experience!!  This year is my daughter’s first year in College (Spelman) and for her Winter Break we traveled down to Miami, FL.  For Spring Break we wanted to do something different, so we headed down to Savannah GA for a truly different and unique experience!

March is a great time to visit Savannah because Savannah holds one of the largest  St.Patrick’s Day  Celebrations in the Country and they start celebrating about 2 weeks in advance! They even turn all of there fountains in the  city green!!  How cool is that?

💚💚The fountains were turned Green to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day💚💚

So the first stop on our Trolley Route that we decided to get off on was City Market.  This is a very diverse and unique  little area of Savannah that is home to a mixture of historical monuments, family owned restaurants, shopping boutiques, and modern and hip bars.

My daughter and I spent a lot of time in City Market.  We stopped for some sweet treats and ice cream at the Savannah Candy Kitchen; where they make The Best Ever!!! Pralines and Taffy and hand out FREE samples!  This little Candy Shop also has a quaint little ice cream parlor where we enjoyed classic flavors of ice cream (Savannah Food Review Coming Soon)

We walked through the City Market square taking in the historical monument sites such as the Haitian Monument for Haitian Slaves who fought in the American Revolution. We made our way across the street to the First African Baptist Church. (as seen on RHOA) Where we paid a small Tour Fee of $7.00 for adults ($6.00 for Students)  The Tour Guides walk you through the church while giving you the historical facts of how this church was the very first African American Church in the United States.  How this church was built by slaves, was apart of the underground railroad system to help assist slaves to there freedom, and how the church later became an important meeting place for Civil Rights activist.(African American Guide to Savannah Coming Soon).  We made our way around several little shops and stopped by  Byrd’s Famous Cookies (Where they also give away FREE samples) on our way back to our Trolley Stop.

Now we did take another trip back to City Market the night before we left to go back to Atlanta. The night time is just as eclectic as the day time with everyone from Families with Kids, SCAD Students, 30’s and 40’s crowds, as well as plenty of Senior Citizens.  However the night Crowd was much larger and the streets were much busier!!  For example the Pizza Shop had a very small steady flow of Customers during the mid-day.  However, the line and wait for tables were very long on Saturday night.  We had to wait a good 45 min to get our take out slices of Pizza!  (Savannah Food Review Coming Soon)  The streets lit up with Bars on wheels,  green neon glow in the dark necklaces, and were lined with Green TuTu wearing young women and men everywhere!  Very fun atmosphere I must say!!🎆🎆🎆

Hello Love Muffins!

So this year is my daughter’s first Spring Break from College and I was lucky enough to have her still want to vacation with me (-:

My daughter is very passionate about our African American Culture and History, so I searched for something that we could do to not only have fun but to also pay homage to our History.  I found the perfect place right here in Georgia!  Savannah that is!

This City has everything in my opinion!  Southern Charm, Eclectic, Full of history, and surrounded by gorgeous views of water!

There was sooo much to do and see in Savanah that I couldn’t fit it all in just One Post!  So starting today.  I will be posting a series of Me and my  Daughters adventures of the New Old South!!

So lets begin!  My very 1st recommendation is to schedule a Trolley!  Savanah has very narrow streets, lots of traffic, and scarce parking! So getting around by car near some of the main points of interest can be a night mare!

We scheduled with Old Time Trolley Tours. This Trolley Company has the option of choosing an All Day Tour Regular Price $32.00 per person (on sale now for $28.80 and 12.50 per Child  (on sale now for 11.25).  Along with several other Tour options such as Night Haunted Tours…. boohaha!

Savannah Haunted Lady

In my opinion its worth every penny! I ordered my tickets online at   www.trolleytours.com ….printed them out,  parked my car FREE at the Welcome Center (located  at the 234 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd), and Hopped on a trolley, that has 16 stops around the City of Savannah.  The stops are near Historical Sites, Parks, Restaurants, and several Hotels.  The tour is guided and comes with a pamphlet to advise of which stops to get off on, for a particular attraction or restaurants.  The Trolley runs every 15 minutes so you can get off and do what ever you would like to do at one stop and then get back on the trolley and head to another stop. This made getting around Savanah very easy!

Although I feel like Old Time Trolley Tours was an excellent choice for me and my daughter.  While on the First  African Baptiste Church Tour, another Tourist advised us that there is another Trolley Company called Oglethorpe Grayline.  This Trolley Company is a little less expensive for there On and Off Tours at $25.00 per person.  Plus Oglethorpe Grayline Tours offer a free service that allows you to call them to find out the exact time of the next Trolley at your pick up stop!  I think that I’m going to try them out on my next visit to Savannah!  You can research them at www.oglethorpetours.com

Empty Nester Organization Tips (Part 1)

Hello Dolls and Divas!

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted. That’s because I’ve been so busy getting my Daughter off to the #1 HBCU College in America.  Spelman College that is!  #ProudSpelMom.  Once I got my daughter off to school, I decided to start getting my life back, and the first step was getting back my organization!!!!

For the past 3 years, my life has been really hectic! I had to take care of my terminally ill father, who later died of Cancer, my job of 13 years was surplused, I ended a 5 year relationship, I started a new business, and on top of all of that, I was getting my daughter through High School and prepared for College.  Needless to say organization was put on the back burner, and what was once my Dad’s room turned into my storage room AKA  “Hoarder Central”.  However, while getting my daughter packed for college, I decided that I would began a Purge and start my organization process.

The Purge: So I started in My Father’s old room “Hoarder Central”  I separated all of the junk from things that I would keep. I actually went through each room in my home and did a mass purging. I then called a local (Metro Atlanta) Junk Removal Company called Good Riddance Junk Removal.  I would absolutely recommend this Company to anyone who’s looking to haul away a large amount of stuff!  They came in and took all of my unwanted items, such as clothes and furniture.  I did not have to lift a finger!  This company also goes through the unwanted items to determine what can be donated or what needed to be trashed!  When I tell you I got rid of a whole lot of stuff!  I mean it! They hauled off Couches, Beds. TV’s, tables, clothes, shoes, toys, junk, and the list goes on and on! Over 10 years worth of accumulation in a 3 bedroom / 2 bathroom home with an attack. The Owner  of Good Riddance, even came back to spray and kill a huge Wasp Nest that I had in hedges as a courtesy.  Very nice Young Man!  Most of what was left in my Fathers old room (after the Purge) was Christmas type items, boxes of my daughters old elementary art work and Misc. household items.

The Recycle: I recycled my daughters old toy box and used it as a Christmas Decoration Storage Bin and I purchased a few other large plastic containers to store away other Christmas decorations and items.  I also recycled several of my daughter’s Steralite Plastic Containers (previously used to store hair bows, crayons, dolls, and toys) placed them in my bedroom closets and labeled each drawer.  Great for storing office supplies, craft supplies, and little odds and ends.  Although I purchased a few new  over the door shoe pocket “thingy-poohs”  I also reused my daughter’s over the door shoe pockets  “thingy-Poohs” as jewelry holders.

🚨💥🚨 New Social Media Alert 🚨 💥🚨

Hello Dolls and Divas!

(follow me at atlantago2rose on Periscope and Meerkat)

As if we don’t have enough sites and apps to keep us socially connected,  Ben Rubin created a new Live Stream App called Meerkat  and Twitter has launched a Brand New Social Site called Periscope.

I just (today) joined both Periscope and Meerkat and I have yet to stream live.  However, I plan on doing so, in the near future. I will definitely follow up with the pro’s and con’s of them both.  I’d love to hear what you think as well!!

The The Huffington Post reported the following:   Twitter unveiled Periscope, a new app that lets people live-stream from their phones to anyone who wants to watch.  The app, which Twitter reportedly acquired for around $100 million earlier this year, was immediately put to use Thursday afternoon, following the collapse of a building in New York City’s East Village, as bystanders streamed live videos of first responders on the scene. At one point, one stream showed more than 600 people tuning in to watch.

You can watch Periscope videos through the app on your iPhone or on your desktop browser. (There isn’t an Android app yet, but it’s in development.) * atlantago2rose note: I believe the app has been updated now for Android users*  People viewing the broadcast can instantly send comments, and you can tap the screen — the way you would when you “like” a photo on Instagram — to send a heart to the person broadcasting. These hearts float up on the right side of the broadcast.

Periscope’s launch comes shortly after Meerkat, an app that also streams live video, exploded in popularity this month.  After Meerkat gained 120,000 users in just two weeks, Twitter revoked the app’s access to its social graph. The move blocked people from bringing their followers and people they were following on Twitter into Meerkat, thereby limiting the app’s ability to grow. Nevertheless, Meerkat announced Thursday that it had raised $14 million in venture capital funding. *atlantago2rose note: This may have have changed because I was able to connect my twitter with Meerkat on the App.*

When you compare both apps, it’s clear that Periscope is much more refined and intuitive than Meerkat. This is likely due to the amount of development time that went into each: Twitter says developers worked on Periscope for a year, whereas Meerkat founder Ben Rubin has said he built Meerkat in only eight weeks.

Unlike Meerkat, Periscope records the live streams, allowing you to watch older videos. This is an especially important feature, given that more people will be able to watch a replay than drop whatever they’re doing to view a live video.  But video archiving may be coming to Meerkat, too. Rubin recently said his company is working to add that feature.

Services that stream live video are nothing new. As The New York Times notes, other companies have tried to succeed in this space before. So the big question is whether this moment will be different, and if Twitter’s global brand can drive mass adoption and give Periscope staying power, beyond the tech and media press.

Apart from the backing of Twitter, Periscope does have some things going for it that older services didn’t: More people have smartphones than ever before — 1.3 billion smartphones were shipped last year, according to IDC, a technology research firm — and wireless networks continue to become faster and more reliable.

Dan Pfeiffer, a former senior adviser to President Obama, recently wrote that live-streaming video services like Meerkat and Persicope will have the ability to change the next presidential election. The services, he wrote on Medium, “could do to television what blogs did to newspapers by removing many of the financial and structural advantages of legacy media institutions.”

Meet me in Trap! Benzino’s Crab Trap that is (Restaurant Review)

Hello Dolls, Divas, and Foodies!

I had the pleasure of attending the Grand Opening of Benzino’s Crab Shack in Marietta, GA (Northern Suburb of Atlanta).  To those of you who aren’t familiar with Benzino (real name Raymond Scott) He is a Rapper, Co-Founder of the Source and Hip Hop Weekly Magazines, and former Cast Member of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta.

I had been hearing the buzz about Benzino’s Crap Trap opening in the Metro Atlanta area, and my first thoughts were, “Okay Benzino’s from Boston, but does that mean that he really knows about Crabs?”  So I was very excited to be able to attend and get an inside view of the restaurant  on the day of Grand Opening! So here goes….

The Restaurant is located at 2856 Delk Rd. Marietta, GA 30067. Which is in Cobb County and  just about 15 minutes north of Atlanta. The restaurant set up is much different then what I expected (much smaller).  In my opinion the restaurant is mostly set up for Customer’s to come in, order their Crabs, and leave. Although there are tables for sit down dining, it just wasn’t enough to accommodate the huge crowd that showed up for the Grand Opening.

Lets talk about the Grand Opening.  Okay, so if you know about Benzino, you know he’s going to do it BIG.  The grand opening included Benzino’s Chrome Painted Maserati parked in front of the resteraunt, Red Carpet, Local Hip Hop and R&B Radio Station V103, a Dancing “Mr. Crabington” Crab Mascot, a number of Reality Stars, and Hip Hop Industry Socialites that included: Benzino’s Significant Other Althea (of course) Jazze Fe, Honey Boo Boo, Mama June, Sugar Bear (and the entire family- now we gots to get the ☕️ on that one?!?), Sarah Oliver from the Bad Girls Club, Suga Shane, Bobby Valentino, and host of Benzino’s and Althea’s Family Members and Friends.  Not to mention a Slew of Customers!

Althea with her Friends and Family enjoying Crab Legs

Althea with her Friends and Family enjoying Crab Legs…BTW check out Benzino’s Business Partner Dave Mays running the register!

Atmosphere: The atmosphere is really laid back…I mean flip flops and jeans laid back!  But, I think that is the atmosphere that Benzino intended to create. The Tv’s were turned up loud, playing New and Classic Hip Hop Videos.  Now, I absolutely loved the Vibe!!!  But the jury is still out on whether or not I would invite my middle aged East Cobb White Soccer Mom Friends to a sit down dinner here or not.

The Service: The staff was very helpful and friendly and seemed to work very well under pressure.  Funny thing; is that all of the staff members were either Benzino’s Friends or Relatives.  Even Dave Mays who is the Creator of the Source, Co-founder of Hip Hop Weekly, and Business Partner of Benzino, was spotted working the register! Leaves me to wonder, who’s going to run this restaurant on a day to day basis?  I also had the opportunity to go back to the kitchen and see how things were running behind the scenes.  I was both shocked and impressed to see that Benzino and his Dad were both in the kitchen working very hard!  Benzino even took the time to answer questions for me and other Media and take photos. He also offered us a Complementary bag of his Crabs!  I have to say that Benzino’s down to earth, humble, and nice attitude gave me a new found respect for him!  Totally not what you would expect from the Owner, who just so happens to be one of the biggest influences in Hip Hop!  Hats off to You Benzino! While in the kitchen, I also had the opportunity of meeting Benzino’s Significant Other Althea Heart.  She seemed a little less patient than her hubby, but I chopped that up to her being a pregnant women in a hot and busy kitchen. But other than that she was very sweet.

All of the Staff were Family or Friends (???)

The Menu: The Menu is simple and to the point! You have a choice of 1lb of Snow Crab Legs for $17.99 (Very reasonable for the Cobb County Area) or Zino’s Crab-Tastic Combo for $19.99 (comes with Steamed Crab Legs, Corn on the Cobb, (2) Hush Puppies and Cole Slaw.)  You get your choice of Zino’s Special Sauce for the Crabs: Spicy, Mild, or Lemon Garlic.  There’s also an array of other sides and desserts to choose from such as French Fries, Sweet Potato Fries, Island Way Gourmet Fruit Sorbet, and Cake. Drinks consist of Zino’s Heavenade, Ice Tea, Bottled Water, and Soda. All reasonably priced in my opinion. Just a side note: The Menu gives Patrons a little background about  how a 10 yr old Benzino and his Father (known as Shnopps) sold Crabs and Corn out of the back of a van in Boston. I thought that was nice.

Benzino's Crab Trap Menu

Benzino’s Crab Trap Menu

Okay….Okay! I know what your thinking!  Enough about all of that other stuff!  How were the Crabs!!!  So Benzino made good on his promise and sent me home with a Bag of Crabs and Corn on the Cob, that I shared with my daughter. The Crabs were very fresh tasting and covered in the Spicy Zino’s Special Sauce.  I don’t know what Benzino put in that Sauce!?! But he definitely has a WINNER!  The Sauce had a sweet and sour, spicy, Barbecue, zing type flavor!  I am a self proclaimed Greedy Girl and I have eaten in many places and several countries and I have never tasted Crab Legs like that!  The corn was good also, nice and sweet, no complaints….So Remember earlier when I said that I might not invite my White Soccer Mom Friends to a sit down dinner at Benzino’s….well I would definitely advise them to order take out.  Listen Metro ATLiens and Visitors, Benzino’s Crab Trap is a must try!  The Crabs are Delicious!!  I will definitely be going back to try the other flavors, sides, and desserts!

As a teen, I never really experienced acne issues with exception of a few pimples during “That Time of Month”  However,  during my pregnancy and after I had my daughter I experienced Horrible Acne.  After trying everything under the sun (including prescription Meds) I found this product at Walmart for $21.00 GREAT DEAL for all that you get!!  Anti – Acne Cleansing Wash, Corrective Toner, Maximum Repair Strength Lotion,  and Retinol Complex Repair!!  Worked excellent for my Acne!  I’ve since switched to another regiment because, I no longer have major acne issues.
